More about me…

I am currently working at a charity in called Backpacks 4 VIC Kids as Partnerships and Philanthropy Manager. Working to raise precious funds for over 11,000 children in crisis care in Victoria. Here’s how I got here.

A lover of BBQ and Ramen, I have been lucky enough to grow up embracing my Australian and Japanese culture and heritage. I have lived in both countries and believe these are the best countries in the world.

Japan, a highly modern, homogenous and advanced nation, is built upon traditions, unspoken rules and collective responsibility. Society and cultural structures are rigid, and teamwork is highly valued. Australia, on the other hand, is a society that encourages individualism and different ideas can be voiced freely, without judgement (usually). Both approaches have their benefits and pitfalls, and understanding the contrasts gives me a unique insight into society.

When I first started to travel, I was surprised at the number of people who would envy my dual citizenship. Many mentioned that they had tried to immigrate (especially to Australia). As I travelled more, I understood why. I am grateful for the life I live in two incredible countries. Stable democracies, no conflicts and a great lifestyle.

From crossing into Palestine and speaking to oppressed citizens, witnessing poverty and pollution in India, to seeing people in luxurious super yachts in Italy and Greece, I’ve formed the view that we should do what we can to better the lives of the less fortunate.

Four years ago, I started my career knocking on doors. Very quickly, I learned to communicate effectively. Soon, I grew a team of three, which turned to ten. After that, I was the fastest in company history to become a manager (7 weeks since starting) leading and coaching many sales people.

I then moved into working for a travel-tech start-up, working in various roles, managing an international team, and even working in Vietnam. I was working for a purpose greater than myself by creating life-changing travel experiences. I left to travel and visited 19 countries over a year while studying for my Bachelor of International Business. I look forward to continuing to travel and expanding my worldview.

My journey in the non-profit world has just begun at Backpacks 4 VIC Kids (B4VK). I look forward making a difference in the lives of children as much as possible.
